Room Tone

Our pinnacle goal is to make your movie or TV show better.
The secondary goal, of course, is to not make it worse.

PROTECTIVE
We’re allies. We have to look out for each other, fear is a dream killer.

ELASTIC
Be patient. The structure and room dynamics will evolve over time.

CANDID
Trust requires honesty, without moral reserves or fear of reprisal.

COMPASSIONATE
We’re all sensitive artists. Without failure, there can be no originality.

CHALLENGING
The process is designed to push us, to elevate our writing and storytelling.

THE LANGUAGE OF GOOD NOTES.

Persuasiveness does not equal correctness.

CONSTRUCTIVE
Speaks towards the passion, even in the context of criticism.

CRITICAL
Create Value. Be tough on the material, not each other.

ACTIONABLE & TIMELY
Leads to meaningful changes on the page… Not in the edit bay.

SPECIFIC
Identifies confusion without hijacking the script or providing solution.

INSPIRING
Motivates the writer to explore, to create, and to make the next draft better.

RESPECT THE WORK, RESPECT YOURSELF

Shitting on someone else’s work doesn’t make your script smell any better.

BE RECEPTIVE
WRITING IS RE-WRITING! Thicken your skin. Open your mind.

RESPECT PLURALITY
If you have to DEFEND, DENY, or DEBATE your intention, something’s not working.

ACTIVELY LISTEN
Make it clear to the person giving notes that you hear them (even if you don’t agree).

TAKE NOTES
Be dispassionate (especially if you don’t agree).
Digest the feedback, absorb what’s valuable, reset, and start again.

ASK NEUTRAL QUESTIONS
Don’t force answers. Dig deeper. Contextualize. Request specificity.

RELAX
Check your ego. Don’t start a fight that doesn’t need to start.

TRUST THE PROCESS

Filmmaking is a Choral Art Form.

We’re not here to talk about your script…
We’ve gathered to help you visualize your movie.
